XACT - The xTREME Campus Competition
xACT (short for extreme accounting) is PwC’s xTREME Campus Competition designed to give students experience and exposure to real world accounting and auditing issues. It’s a chance for students to test their critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills against hundreds of the best accounting students around the country.
This year, four WMU teams competed in PwC’s xACT competition for the chance to win $1,000 and consideration for the National Finals.
Teams were given two weeks to research an accounting case. This year’s case involved certification of professional accountants in a mythical foreign country. Multiple stakeholder viewpoints were taken into consideration and a course of action was selected. Though there was no one correct answer, the object was for teams to prepare a presentation that would convince experts that their solution was the best one.
Presentations took place on November 1st at the Radisson attended by team competitors, PwC partners, and Department of Accountancy chair and staff. Teams were judged on the basis of their critical thinking, presentation quality, and teamwork skills.
In the end, it was team Depreciators that came out on top! They were selected as the best WMU team in PwC’s xACT competition and walked away with a check totaling $1,000! Team members included Beth Watson, Brandon Potts, Chris Reynolds, Hirotaka Nakatomi, Paul Buckles. Teams were required to include 1 junior, 2 sophomores and 2 others.
Congratulations to all WMU teams who participated in the xACT competition! And a special congratulations to all members of WMU’s team Depreciators! Great job! The tape of the Depreciators presentation will be considered for the National Award of $10,000.
